Which Dutch band:
- survived 22 years in the world of rock ‘n roll without any line up changes?
- won a Dutch Grammy Award for a single the radio wouldn’t play?
- had an album in the charts for more than half a year?
- did nearly 1500 shows in throughout Europe, the United States, Japan and South Africa?
- Made a song together with the mayor of Maastricht about legalizing weed?
- Toured with punk bands like The Offspring, The UK Subs and The Misfits but also played with the classical Metropole Orchestra?
- Got their sarcastic song “Jerry Rules” played in the world famous TV show ‘Jerry Springer’?
- Toured the ashes of a post-war Balkan area named former Yugoslavia but also made a musical stand up comedy show?
- Made a hardcore song in 2004 that got (partly) ripped by popdiva Lady Gaga in 2011?
The only correct answer to these questions is: Heideroosjes (pronounced; Hi-The-Rose-Yes). In 1989 four outcast teens started a punk band to fight boredom in the small Dutch village they lived in. Nowadays their band has evolved into a four headed tour monster that has released eight studio albums and is constantly on the road. They sing in Dutch but also in English and German. “I write in the language that best fits the topic I wanna talk about” says singer/guitarist Marco Roelofs.
On their latest studio-album “Chapter Eight, The Golden State” (produced by Cameron Webb, who also worked with Social Distortion, Pennywise and Motorhead) Heideroosjes had some impressive guest-vocalists by the name of Motorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister and Zoli Teglas from the band Ignite.
Currently Heideroosjes are working on a new 9th album will be released at the end of 2011 or at the start of 2012. “We record albums because we want to play live. We don’t like studios, we like playing in front of crowds” the band states. And the press agrees.
When Heideroosjes played a show at the famous SouthBySouthwest festival in Texas, USA, the Austin Chronicle wrote in a raving review; “They burn more calories and write better songs than the standard-issue American punk band, and they blew the first two bands right out the front door. Now there's a lesson in how to rock.
